pictures of the summer!

Mission Work
after i went to honduras, i felt like God was calling me to possibly organize a local mission trip for TRUST, lima community church of the nazarene's college and career group for singles. so i started by going with alisha to an intown mission to paint at a lady in our church's home. it was a lot of fun and i talked to some leaders about possibly doing a separate mission with just the TRUST group. so this is like step #1...
Royal Family Kids Camp
each year i help out with a camp for abused and neglected children of allen county. i do the music and jump around and act crazy and silly. the sunday of camp was also father's day, so we went to a reds baseball game in cinnci before camp. here we are at the game. and i don't have any pictures of camp, sorry. but it was awesome!
General Assembly
linz and i are in gospel choir, and we were invited as a group to sing at general assembly in indianapolis the friday after/of RFKC. so as soon as the closing ceremony was over, linz and i took off and we brought tara and alisha with us. it was great fun, although we were all exhausted and moody. but that's ok. gospel choir was so much fun!

tara braided my hair in the car! dangerous, aye?

linz and i... and the gospel choir...

i got to see alli, one of my two new roommates at olivet! look... it's 2:00!

this guy, josh i think, was hilarious! we sang in a huge choir and i brought jonathan and tara and alisha with me and we sat by mid america... this kid was hilarious! he cracked me up soo bad!

Leading Worship
jonathan and i got to go to mark and holly's church and lead worship one sunday. it was a lot of fun, and oh, so good to see mark and holly again! this is their new complete family... mark, Holly, ella grace and ayden wesley. he's adorable! Fireworks!
for the fourth, sandie and i went and met tara, alisha, brian, nathan, tytus and bekah and watched the fireworks together. it was awesome. oh, and we ate popcorn that was delicious!!

Great Grandpa Burkey

grandpa died in july, and we went as a family to the funeral. this is many of my immediate burkey family at the funeral. grandpa lived to be 96 and went water skiing for the last time at the age of 92, i think those numbers are right. he was such an awesome man! he sure left our family a legacy. he loved Jesus with all of his heart and his greatest desire was that his whole family would come to know Jesus.Candace and Brandon

my cousin candace got married, i think July 15th. it was so beautiful! candace is gorgeous and brandon is just awesome! i'm so excited for them! i got to be a greeter, and it was amazing. i just love my cousins!

Vacation Bible School

VBS week kristi ball came to visit me for a week. it was great fun. she went to VBS with me each night, i helped lead kids worship and dressed up as if i was from the 5os. i also told the story a few nights because dad was sick after getting back from a mission trip to new york city with the youth group and jonathan. VBS was awesome... and then the boys won, so michael remole, our children's pastor intern for the summer, got to slime miss sheri! talk about totally rock out! miss sheri had never lost!! :)

Doug and Katie

doug and katie got married and we all went to the wedding. it seems so unreal. no more katie windau... now it's mrs. katie shannon! how weird! my friends are getting married!! aahh!! dancing at the wedding was awesome! well, kinda... i had dropped a huge can of lentil beans on my foot earlier that day at lazeza's, so i hurt but i danced for kristi's sake. and it rocked!!! i love my friends! if only i could dance like a fried... lol! :)

here all of us are... heidi, brian, megan, jordan, jenny, me, tara and kristi. we danced the night away!

TRUST

these are some of my trust friends. we love to go to arby's after tuesday night trust, and kristi got to meet my friends. this is brian and nate and caleb and kristi.Grandma's House!

we took kristi with us one day and went and visited grandma. this is emily foxworthy. her grandma and mine were like best friends growing up, so we had like a 2-family reunion. emily goes to olivet too, so that was really kewl. i had to leave early to go to work, so that's why i have my lazeza shirt on. i'm not really that big of a dork! Roadtrip to Marysville!

well, it was really to dublin... jonathan and i decided out of the blue one saturday to go and visit chris and amy just because we could... and then it was even awesomer because jimmy was there too! it was a blast. we hung out and talked, went and got pizza, then the boys got icecream and we got coffee, and we talked more and went back to amy's house and took some pics. i just love chris and amy and jimmy!!! i miss them when i'm not at olivet!

Mission Work

so this summer, i kinda piddled around and didn't put a trip together until the end of the summer... i don't really know why, i think i was just afraid and i totally shouldn't have been! look at this group! there were around 20 college kids that came out and helped me... we went to this community center and helped clean up in and around it. we painted and cleared the sidewalk and helped the staff out. they're short staffed at the moment as many of the staff are struggling with health issues, so it was just really kewl to go and be the hands and feet of Jesus for a few short hours. lima is our mission field. i'm excited at the possiblity of missions in TRUST's future.

whoosh!

oh my goodness... the past month has FLOWN by!
i can't believe it is already july! so what has happened to me lately?
well... i did make it to honduras... it was an amazing trip! i seriously feel like God has put me in social work and spanish for a reason. now i am hoping to be able to study abroad in Latin America, so pray for me and we'll see how that goes.
after honduras, i worked here at home with my dad for a while and then went to royal family kids camp where God really impressed on my heart that he is calling me to be a social worker. that was awesome.
after rfkc was general assembly where linz and i went and sang with the gospel choir. i also took tara fried and alisha hays with me and they and jonathan got to sing with us and a whole lot of other choirs. it was awesome.
and then... I GOT A JOB!!!!!!!!!!! hallellujah!!! i've been so worried about not finding a job... and i got the perfect one... i work at lazeza's... it's a mediteranean restaurant/coffee shop. so i'm a waitress and i make coffee... like lattes and cappuchinos and mochas... yes, it's the best!
so that's my summer so far... i get some teeth in 2 weeks, and vbs is coming up shortly... anybody have any ideas for a great 50s costume for me throw it out there!
i'll be in and out... hopefully i'll drop some pics up here for you soon... of honduras and the rest of the summer. otherwise, be blessed... and have an incredible month of july!!!
I LOVE YA!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

please pray!

hey everybody!
i just wanna ask that you all would remember me in prayer this week. i leave tomorrow for honduras. i'll be gone until sunday, may 29th... so about 10 days. i've been really afraid and anxious over this trip... it's a medical mission trip and i feel like i shouldn't be the one picked to go on this trip. i am reminded of the verses in philippians 4 "do not be anxious about anything, but in everything with prayer and petitions, present your requests to God", and the ones in 2 timothy 1, "for God has not given us a spirit of fear", and in john 14, "my peace i leave with you, not as the world leaves" and "do not let your heart be troubled, trust in God, trust also in me." so i'm hanging on to those promises... and God is going to move in an amazing way in my life this next week. i just ask, that as you think of me this next week... please lift me up in prayer!
i love you all so much!!! have an incredible week full of Jesus!!!

Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But He said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness."

no me gustan los perros

OH MY COW!!!!!!!!! let me tell you what happened to me today...
yes, in case you're wondering, i made it back safe and sound in one piece, my computer's set up and i have a new room, and i'll show you all the pictures and everything, but i am right now traumatized and have to tell the world.

so i babysat today for a little boy named isaac who's about 1 or 2... he toddles around and talks, and he's adorable. well, his family just moved into a new house and his mom lacy told me that they got a new dog as well, a puppy, named cooper who likes to lick but that he shouldn't be a problem. puppy! great, i can handle that, i like puppies, no biggie... or so i thought. um, think again. jason, the dad, is there when i arrive and he lets cooper in and let me tell you, i have NEVER seen a bigger dog in my life!!! that was one BIG puppy. now, our neighbors had great dames and dober pinchermans and those huge mean, lean chicken-eating machines, but this thing was gigantinormigous!!! his head was over my knee and when he jumped he put his paws on my shoulders, and he's fat and furry! no joke. i found a pretty good picture at this website.... http://greatpyrenees.com/wyndhamhill/win3s.jpg.... yeah, and your's truly is, guess what!?! afraid of dogs! well, maybe not afraid, i'm learning to deal but this thing scared the poop out of me!!! i would like you to notice how BIG that dog is in comparison to that lady. this one had more fur and was brown but was that big, and scary looking.
jason was there, and cooper wasn't bad. he licked me and jumped, but jason said he'd calm easy so i wasn't that worried. he said cooper would never hurt a fly, um, i don't know about that. jason told me i could put him in the laundry room and so he put him there when he left. not a big deal. about 30 minutes later cooper starts barking and isaac goes "doggy?" so stupid kara let the dog out. um... yeah, he went crazy. at first he just jumped on me, and then i'm trying to pet him to make him calm down and he starts nipping me, so i try to get him back in the laundry room and he pushes me in. so i'm now shaking and i'm standing in the laundry room and this humongous beast is bearing his teeth and barking at me across the door way. every time i try to come out he like jumps on his hind legs. i don't know what to do, and i'm praying, almost crying, and all of a sudden, baby isaac, who has been standing behind cooper staring at me like there's something wrong with me, says "kawah, doggy" and walks into the laundry room. i grab him and shut the door... and then realize, um, now isaac and i are locked in the laundry room. good one huh? lol :) you know this is really histerical as i look back on it, but i was seriously in tears!
praise Jesus, there's a door in the laundry room to outside, so i take isaac outside thinking maybe we can get in another door, and um, it's all locked. so we go play in the back for a while and i'm scheming, praying, crying, shaking, and i finally see cooper through the window go lay down in the next room. so i grab isaac and make a run for it... as i get inside to the back door to let cooper out, he attacks me and i throw the door open and push him into the yard and slam the door. WHOO WHO!!!!!!!!!! i did it! we're in, it's out, and i did good. HAH... until i look outside about 2 hours later and this big beautiful very furry dog is CAKED in mud. whoops!
when lacy got home i told her, and after she laughs at me, she realizes that cooper has broken their brand new pond outside full of fishes that are no more, i hope they make cooper sick dumb dog, and that's how he's all wet and muddy. yeah... i definitley felt stupid. so um, next time, i WILL NOT be taking him out of the laundry room. dumb dog... or maybe we should say, dumb kara.
check out the picture, i swear, this animal is ENORMOUS!!!!!!!!!!! :)
